BOONE UNITED METHODIST PRESCHOOL – Lead Teacher
Lead Teacher Application

Requirements for this position:
The lead teacher shall have a four-year degree in child development, early childhood education, elementary education, or a related field, have had satisfactory experience in working with children, and meet all licensing requirements if applicable. This person shall be mature and sensitive in working with children, parents, and all other staff. The teacher shall be a person of Christ-like character, active in a Christian church, and someone committed to furthering the mission of the United Methodist Church.

Job Description

Accountability:
The teacher is responsible to the Preschool Director.

Responsibilities:
a. Plan and conduct daily activities in accordance with the philosophy of the program and
provide written lesson plans for the director.
b. Be responsible for the welfare of all children in the group.
c. Care for rooms and equipment.
d. Arrive by 8:30am and remain until at least 12:30, or later until the room is ready for the next day and all children have left.
e. Provide a calendar at the beginning of each month to communicate with families about
the activities for each month.
f. Keep records as requested by the director.
g. Secure a substitute teacher in advance of being out. Notify the director of substitutes. Be available for parent conferences. Cooperate with Sunday School teachers and others who share the rooms. Attend staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
h. Conduct oneself at all times in a professional manner.

Requirements for this position:
The assistant teacher shall be a high school graduate with good academic skills. Preference will be given to applicants with a BA, BS, or equivalent degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development. The applicant must have an interest, demonstrated skill, and experience working with young children. This person must be willing to work under the supervision of a lead teacher. The applicant must be warm, friendly, and sensitive to children and adults. The assistant teacher shall be a person of Christ-like character, active in a Christian church, and someone committed to furthering the mission of the United Methodist Church.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Function:
To assist the lead teacher in preparing materials, working with children, cleaning the room, and assisting on the playground.

Accountability:
The teacher assistant is responsible to the lead teacher assigned and to the Preschool Director.

Responsibilities:
A. Receive and follow the directions of the lead teacher in assigned tasks.
B. Communicate to parents about information related to the daily routine, referring parents to the teacher or director in matters regarding conferences, complaints, or problems.
C. Attend staff meetings.
D. Attend in-service training.

The music teacher shall be a person of Christ-like character, active in a Christian church, and someone committed to furthering the mission of the United Methodist Church.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Function:
To teach music classes to preschool children, and to support the preschool in music activities, including accompanying music for chapel services.

Accountability:
The music teacher is responsible to the Director.

Responsibilities:
A. Plan and teach six thirty-minute sessions each week, one session for each preschool class of children aged two through five (transitional kindergarten).
B. Play a prelude and postlude for preschool chapel services, and accompany singing during chapel.
C. Provide music resources for teachers to use in the classroom as requested.
