6th Annual Missions Celebration

Don’t miss this opportunity on April 18-22 to meet visiting missionaries, hear about what God is doing in the lives of His people, and learn how lives are being changed throughout the world by BUMC mission outreach. It will be a wonderful weekend of learning, worshiping, and fellowship. There will also be opportunities for children. The weekend culminates with a very special moment in the life of our church, when we renew our Faith Promise. Through Faith Promise giving, we trust God to provide over and beyond our normal offerings in support of mission efforts locally, nationally, and around the world.

Attic Basement Closet Sale

The annual ABC sale will be held on May 25 and 26. We are currently collecting gently used kitchen items, clothing, toys, shoes, etc. Items can be brought to room 134 during regular office hours. No large furniture, appliances or winter clothing please. Silent Auction items should be brought to the office. The proceeds of this sale benefit local missions.

From Dr. George Naff….

I will be leaving the staff of the church in June, and will be going into private practice as a professional counselor. I will not be retiring but will be beginning a new ministry. It is a non-profit counseling ministry called Mountaintop Counseling. It has been created to provide help for wounded healers and others who need spiritually-based, meaning-centered counseling regardless of their ability to pay.
I dearly love and appreciate the members of BUMC, and am so grateful for the many ways you have supported me during these 10 years in ministry here.

I’ll still be in Boone and will be around to support you in any way I can. You can always reach me at drnaff@yahoo.com and via cell phone (828-265-9265). Our mailing address will be Mountaintop Counseling, c/o Dr. George Naff, PO Box 1249, Boone NC 28607.

I will welcome your prayers and support in this new ministry.

God bless you and your family,

George Naff

New Study Opportunities

“Strange Light, Unexpected Friends”

Beginning on January 22, art will be displayed in the church around the theme “Strange Light, Unexpected Friends,” with art by students from ASU. Professor Lillian Nave Goudas will also be teaching a Sunday School class on how Christians engage art on January 29 and February 12 in the chapel. A reception for these artists, including original musical pieces, will be held on Wednesday evening, February 1 at 6:30 p.m.

We are blessed to have these artists as our guests. All are invited to attend and enjoy this wonderful opportunity.

“Jesus and Darwin”

Pastor Byassee and Dr. Scott St. Clair will teach this exciting class on February 12, 19 & 26, at 6:30 p.m. They will teach on theology and science generally and Christian faith and Darwinism specifically. Childcare available, reservations required.

“Women’s Book Discussion”

Join us as we review and discuss the book “7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess”, by Jen Hatmaker. A true story of how Jen took seven months, identified seven areas of excess and made seven choices to fight back against the modern-day diseases of greed, materialism and overindulgence. It is funny, raw and not a guilt trip in the making. So, what’s the payoff from living a deeply reduced life? It’s the discovery of a greatly increased God – a call toward Christ-like simplicity and generosity that transcends a social experiment.

Pillowcase Dresses

Would you like to use your talents to make a little girl feel worthy and possibly protect her from being abused? We are excited to announce a new ministry opportunity. Read More

Boone UMC’s First Blood Drive for 2012

Monday, January 30th, 2:00pm ‘til 6:30pm in the Family Life Center.

Please donate if you can. There is an urgent need, especially for Type 0 Negative.
Giving blood is easy and safe.

Administrative Council Meeting

Tuesday, January 24, at 6:30pm in the sanctuary for ALL leaders and committee members.
We will plan for the next year and center on “Follow Jesus. Make Disciples. Transform the World”.

Follow Jesus – unity within our church and spiritual development of individuals;
Make Disciples – evangelism and a welcoming attitude in everything all the communities do; and
Transform the World – mission evangelism and reinforcing the concept that we need to look at how we can eliminate barriers to mission within our committees
