In Acts 1:8, Jesus tells his disciples, “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” At Boone UMC, we are privileged to be able to join with Jesus-followers who are serving God in their local communities around the world, and to partner with them in ministry.
A few of the ways we do that are:
Zoe Ministries
From the NC mountains to Butare, Rwanda, we partner with New Hope Orphan group. Please pray for this ministry and learn more about the Zoe Ministries by visiting Zoe Empowers.
Partnership with Esmirna Metodista in Patzibala, Guatemala
Since 2003, Boone UMC has been partnering with a Methodist Church in Patzibal, Guatemala to build relationships and meet needs identified by this indigenous Mayan community. Work teams, which typically go in March each year, have helped build a new church, led vacation Bible School, and hosted a dental clinic. In 2016, a “Pig Project” was launched, allowing 12 women from the community to learn how to raise pigs through Heifer International, and to purchase pigs through micro-credit loans. Plans are for the program to continue to expand, and many local women are interested in loans for other entrepreneurial endeavors. Members from Boone UMC also started theJoy In Unity Foundationto help provide scholarships for children in Patzibal. To find out more about getting involved in Boone UMC’s partnership in Guatemala, contact David Thompson.
International Leadership Institute (ILI)
For many years, BUMC has partnered with the International Leadership Institute (ILI) to host a conference in Indonesia that trains and equips leaders to make disciples in their own communities. In 2013, two members of our congregation were able to go and participate in that event, and the opportunity for BUMC members to go is being offered again in April 2018. If you would like to learn more about this opportunity, contact Pastor Laura
Wycliff Bible Translators
BUMC currently sponsors two families who work with Bible translation through Wycliffe Bible Translators–David and Gunborg Presson and Paul and Lind Humnick.
Reverend Laura Byrch, our pastor of Community Engagement, is also always eager to meet with those interested in serving, and to help discern and connect you to places and opportunities where God might be calling you to serve.
