New Series: The Body of Christ

New Series: The Body of Christ

A woman with blonde hair and blue eyes.

The body of Christ is mysterious and wonderful. The church has traditionally spoken of Christ’s body having three forms: the body that was born of the Virgin Mary and died on the cross for us. His body is the gathered body of the church. Jesus’s body is also the bread and wine on the altar, broken and poured out for us. These three are actually one, in ways far beyond our understanding. When St. Augustine invited his church to communion in 5th century North Africa he said, “Come and receive what you are.”

Our bodies are also mysterious and wonderful. We know what a body is by looking first at the body of Christ, and then catching the delight God has in his Son’s body. This preaching series, starting May 31 and ending June 28, will look at the mysteries and wonders of Christ’s body and of ours. We’ll conclude on June 28 with a combined service and meal afterwards.

Come and be more deeply who you already are: the one body of Jesus.

From Pastor Jason

I’d love to hear from you. What would you like me to preach about? What spiritual issues are you struggling with? What issues in the world would you like to hear addressed? What biblical texts or spiritual issues have you never heard about from the pulpit that you’d like to? Perhaps most importantly, what sort of topics would make you most likely to invite your friends not now in church to Boone Methodist?

I can’t promise I’ll hit every suggestion but I will seriously consider them all. Please send your suggestions to seniorminister@booneumc.org or put a note in my box in the office.
