Welcome Rev. Dr. John Ed Mathison

Dr. Mathison is one of the most important leaders in Methodism over the last generation. We have the esteemed privilege to have him preach for us on May 6th during our 8:45 and 11 a.m. services as well as teach in the chapel during the Sunday School hour on the topic “Does God need the church?”

We are blessed to have the Boone United Methodist Preschool perform for us on May 6th during the 8:45 a.m. service.

This wonderful mission of our church is a morning program for 2, 3 and 4 year olds as well as a Transitional Kindergarten. They use weekly themes to teach age appropriate skills and incorporate Christian values in the daily lessons.

Thank you to our wonderful staff of dedicated childhood educators who work tirelessly to nurture the youngest members of God’s family. They not only model Christian attitudes but help these children experience wonder and awe at God’s world.

From Dr. George Naff….

I will be leaving the staff of the church in June, and will be going into private practice as a professional counselor. I will not be retiring but will be beginning a new ministry. It is a non-profit counseling ministry called Mountaintop Counseling. It has been created to provide help for wounded healers and others who need spiritually-based, meaning-centered counseling regardless of their ability to pay.
I dearly love and appreciate the members of BUMC, and am so grateful for the many ways you have supported me during these 10 years in ministry here.

I’ll still be in Boone and will be around to support you in any way I can. You can always reach me at drnaff@yahoo.com and via cell phone (828-265-9265). Our mailing address will be Mountaintop Counseling, c/o Dr. George Naff, PO Box 1249, Boone NC 28607.

I will welcome your prayers and support in this new ministry.

God bless you and your family,

George Naff

Beginning on January 22, art will be displayed in the church around the theme “Strange Light, Unexpected Friends,” with art by students from ASU. A reception for these artists, including original musical pieces, will be held on Wednesday evening, February 1 at 6:30 p.m.

We are blessed to have these artists as our guests. All are invited to attend and enjoy this wonderful opportunity.

“Jesus and Darwin”

Pastor Byassee and Dr. Scott St. Clair will teach this exciting class on February 12, 19 & 26, at 6:30 p.m. They will teach on theology and science generally and Christian faith and Darwinism specifically. Childcare available, reservations required.

“Women’s Book Discussion”

Join us as we review and discuss the book “7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess”, by Jen Hatmaker. A true story of how Jen took seven months, identified seven areas of excess and made seven choices to fight back against the modern-day diseases of greed, materialism and overindulgence. It is funny, raw and not a guilt trip in the making. So, what’s the payoff from living a deeply reduced life? It’s the discovery of a greatly increased God – a call toward Christ-like simplicity and generosity that transcends a social experiment.
