Joy in Unity Update
Mission teams from Boone UMC spent several years at the Methodist church in Patzibal, Guatemala in the early 2000s, eventually helping build a new sanctuary. From those early visits in Guatemala, the household poverty rate was seen as very high. With that exposure to family needs, the idea of helping children gain an education was developed.
The Joy In Unity Foundation (JIUF) is a non-profit group founded in 2010 from those early mission trips. The goal was to provide education scholarships for school children in Guatemala, specifically in the region of Patzibal. JIUF invites sponsors to provide annual scholarships for children from first grade, starting at $415, through university levels, starting at $715 .
Sally Anderson, who attends the 11:00 Traditional Service, was a member of those early mission teams to Patzibal and later became a founding member of JIUF. She has been a dedicated Board member since 2010, helping translate students’ letters from Spanish to English language, so that the foundation can send letters to sponsors.
Sally is retiring from the Board of Directors after 15 active years, and the rest of the foundation Board members wish to recognize her service. Sally’s continued support of students throughout the years and her efforts to help sponsors learn from their students has been an invaluable gift of her talents and love of the Guatemalan people.
The foundation board members salute her for all that she has done during her time with the Joy In Unity Foundation. Please join us in thanking Sally for all she has done with JIUF.
