The Right to Read: Film Screening & Panel Discussion
Join us on Thursday, May 22, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. in Room 125 for a special screening of The Right to Read: The Greatest Civil Rights Issue of Our Time. This powerful documentary highlights the literacy crisis in America and the urgent need to ensure that every child has access to the tools they need to learn to read. The film shines a light on the intersection of education, equity, and justice—issues that impact our community and the broader world.
Following the screening, stay for a panel discussion featuring local literacy experts: Rev. Dr. Kathy Beach, Pastor at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church; Shelly Campbell, Site Director of Boone UMC’s Summer Literacy Program; and Linda Rhyne, Chapter President of The Reading League NC. These panelists bring a wealth of knowledge and experience and will lead a thoughtful conversation on how we can work together to address literacy challenges and support all learners.
An optional dinner will be served at 5:15 p.m. in the Family Life Center before the event begins. Parking is available behind the building. We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful evening of learning, reflection, and community engagement.
