News and Notes – July 2013

Boone Area Missions – The local missions initiative of Boone UMC.

There is a clear pattern throughout scriptures: God cares for the poor, the suffering, the orphans, the widows, the foreigners, and he expects His people to do the same. We see commandments in the Old Testament to care for those in need, we see Christ came to proclaim the good news to the poor, and we see the early church rapidly responding to the needs of those in their community.

Missions Celebration – April 19-21

The Mission Celebration Weekend is full of learning, worshiping, and fellowship. There will also be opportunities for children to participate.

Stephen Ministers

A woman with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Shown are thirteen of the fifteen Stephen Ministers at Boone UMC.

On Sunday, April 7th, Boone United Methodist commissioned 13 new Stephen Ministers. These people have been through 50 hours of specialized training in Christian caregiving and join a team of three Stephen Leaders at Boone United Methodist. Stephen Ministers provide confidential one-to-one Christian care to people experiencing a crisis or going through a difficult time. Stephen Ministers meet weekly with their care receiver for around an hour to listen, care, encourage, pray, and provide emotional and spiritual support for the person. Caring relationships last for as long as the person’s need persists. The Stephen Ministries organization is based in St. Louis but serves more than 11,000 congregations representing 150 Christian denominations worldwide.

Please lift up our new Stephen Ministers in your prayers, asking that God bless their ministry and work through them to bring hope and healing to those they are serving.

Congratulations Confirmands

A wonderful Spirit-filled event.
